A Royal Invitation.

An Invitation to the Queens Garden Party.

This year, 2017, one of our valued villagers was nominated to be included in the honours at the Queens Garden Party this June.

Janice Ford was nominated and here is her account of her experience with her husband Peter.

A once in a lifetime experience and we as a village are very proud

that one of our own has been honoured. 🙂

Every summer, The Queen invites more than 30,000 people from all walks of life to Garden Parties at Buckingham Palace and Holyroodhouse. The Queen hosts three parties in the Palace and one in Holyroodhouse as a way to recognise and reward public service.

In 2017, The Queen’s Garden Parties took place at Buckingham Palace on Tuesday 16 May, Tuesday 23 May and Thursday 1 June.

Once inside a Garden Party around 27,000 cups of tea are served, 20,000 sandwiches and 20,000 slices of cakes are consumed.  For a Garden Party, gentlemen wear morning dress or lounge suits, while women wear day dress, usually with hats or fascinators. National dress and uniform are also often worn.

Military bands play a selection of music throughout the afternoon, including The National Anthem at the start and end of the party.

The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh, accompanied by other members of the Royal Family, speak to a broad range of people from all walks of life, all of whom have made a positive impact on their community.

The History.

Garden Parties have been held at Buckingham Palace since the 1860s. From 1948 to 1958 three were held across both the Palace and Holyrood.

Since then the Garden Parties have increased to four. Some years The Queen grants permission for special garden parties and each year one is held for the “Not Forgotten Association”, a charity for wounded, injured or sick ex-servicemen and women, which this year, will be hosted by Prince Henry of Wales.
